1959 Austin Healey Bugeye Sprite

1959 Austin Healey Bugeye Sprite

British small open sports car produced by the British Motor Corporation (BMC), it was intended to be a low-cost model, yet be the successor to the sporting versions of the pre-war Austin Seven. The Sprite was designed by the Donald Healey Motor Company, which received a royalty payment from the manufacturers BMC. As the pictures is Mark I the first generation of Sprite quickly became affectionately known as the Frogeye in the UK and the Bugeye in the US released in 1959.

Detail by owner
One of the most pleasurable vehicles i have ever owned! 1959 Austin Healey Bugeye Sprite. I have driven it a handful of time in the past three years and so I have decided to pass it on to someone who will enjoy it a bit more. Although it is definitely a conversation piece both in the garage and out. I have owned it since 2003. It is a original restoration down to the Primrose yellow paint job which was its factory color. It is all stock, drum brakes and all. no upgraded parts in spirit of keeping it original. It does have a Klaxon horn as well as the stock one so when you push the button under the dash, it sounds like you are in a submarine about to dive!!! I comes with a soft top and a flat bikini top that goes over the driving compartment and zips up the middle. i have never used either on as I only drove it when the day was nice and the sun shining... Only issue that i have is that the Tach does not work. I am assuming that the gear inside the transmission is to blame but I received it this way and this way it has stayed. I use the motor sound to shift anyway. those of you familiar with these vehicles know that they are extraordinarily low geared and so knowing when to shift is not an issue. Since it is a 1959 automobile and British to boot, there is a small oil drip. Only mentioning it because when it sits , i notice a spot or two. It does not burn oil and has awesome compression!. aother than that, no issues. starts up just fine for having twin SU's. I just replaced the battery this year. after 10 years of life on the old one. i have a car cover for it as well to keep the dust off while in the garage. It is a driver so it will not be shiny on the bottom!!! but it is in awesome shape.!!!
