Full Rebuilt, 1965 Volvo Amazon 122s Wagon For Sale

Here we found this one European classic mid-size station wagon offered by Swedish automaker Volvo in the 60s, commonly known as the Amazon 122S Wagon in the US.

Ponton genre, three-box styling designed by Jan Wilsgaard was inspired by US cars of the early 1950s, precisely when he saw a Kaiser at the Gothenburg harbor.

As shown here is 1965 Volvo Amazon 122S Wagon has been fully rebuilt, spent two years by the current owner to make it great as shown today. The car is being offered for sale and listed on craigslist looking for a new home, located in Long Beach.

Details by owner
I bought this wagon in 2016. I had a 122 sedan in the 90s and loved it, was always looking for a wagon. I spent a good two years going through everything to make it a reliable, fun driver. That includes all new suspension (shocks, springs, bushings), all new braking system, and going through all the mechanics. Now that I have it all dialed in it just runs and runs. If you know about these cars that’s the deal, they are unstoppable! Super fun to drive 4 speed manual.

The wagon went through a full restoration sometime back, probably 20ish years ago but I’m guessing. The original B18 engine was swapped for a more powerful B20 from a 70s Volvo (essentially the same engine just a bit larger). If there was any rust it was taken care of then. They put new floor pans in. The body is super clean. The interior is decent but not perfect, with some wear on the seats and door panels. Perfectly comfortable to drive though. Paint is not perfect up close, but looks good. It’s been garaged the entire time I’ve owned it.

Some of the things I’ve done….

Replaced the weber single carburetor with a pair of freshly rebuilt, correct dual SU HS6 carbs and intake. All new linkage and throttle cable. Installed an IPD header, with all new exhaust and a Arvin 26” glass pack muffler Suspension including Bilstien shocks valved specifically for the wagon, VP auto lowering coils (sits about 1” below stock) new ball joints, sway bar links, all bushings New old stock rubber shift boot New window seals and guide channels Rebuilt the heater with all new gaskets and seals including heater control valve Brake system rebuild - New calipers pads and rotors up front. New cylinders and shoes in the back. Stainless steel brake hoses from IPD. A modern Subaru brake booster and master cylinder were fit by C.H. Topping (custom brake shop). The brake lines split into two circuits for safety, the way modern cars are set up. Front seat belts were replaced with 3 point retractable belts New water pump, radiator hoses, thermostat New clutch slave cylinder New ignition barrel from IPD Valve cover gasket Rebuilt rear axle with new seals and bearings Chrome automotive fire extinguisher mounted in cab Period correct Smiths Tachometer on the dash (like 123gt) Roof rack bars re-chromed Hella fog lights New steel wheels from VP autoparts in Sweeden (exactly like the stock wheels only 1” wider) with fresh Toyo tires. Fresh oil change There is more that I’m probably forgetting. I have receipts.

Needs a new speedometer cable, the speedo is not working.

Hard to sell it but I have another project and need the money and garage space. That being said I’m in no rush to sell it and will ignore lowball offers. This wagon is in way better condition than most of the amazons I see for sale.

The last two photos are part of a ROXY ad campaign that featured the wagon. It's been in other advertisements as well.

Thanks for looking!
