1960 Chevrolet Corvair 700 Sedan

1960 Chevrolet Corvair 700 Sedan is first generation of the Corvair

The Corvair is a response from Chevy for the success of foreign compact cars in the US by Volkswagen we know it is the Beetle. The Corvair also follow the rear engine air-cooled architecture like the Beetle.

By the late 1950s the Beetle technology is pre-war technology in terms of weight distribution, cooling and noise, it was far from ideal, and for the future is front-engine/front wheel-drive as Austin Mini did.

Nonetheless, the 1960 Corvair did have its share of redeeming features. Styling was clean and attractive, because there was no drive shaft hump or transmission tunnel, interiors were quite roomy. The Corvair also pioneered exhaust gas-driven turbocharging. The Corvair stops produced at late 60s never recovered.
